What is a StudioBug

Origin

The first time I used the name was in the Brooklyn studio. There was a chatline in that day that implored you to use fake names when encountering others. The Studio came from the the location i was in and the Bug came from a design from a beverage can I was drinking during the conversation.

This name was good enough to get me through the night on the chatline, but I was struck by how poignant that phrase had been as a description for myself. I instantly knew there were some nick name issues with the phrase for example.

Its too non threatening, the random paring of the two words makes it almost clownish, the Bug makes it feel too 80’s old school, and black people don’t like names with four or more syllables. But as the days rolled by and I tried multiple times to replace it nothing felt like a descriptive coat that was put on more than this phrase. But the phrase needs a meaning.

Purpose

I always viewed the name StudioBug or SB as how Captain or General is used in the Military. What we needed was a artisan dedicating his life to working with the different classifications of art. Finding a way to pull art forms together and survive the digital and cultural curve that approached in the millennium. A leader who practices, mentors and can inspire different art forms can assist in growing the community. And create installations laymen can enjoy.
